Also, please tell us exactly what your goal is with the use of the photo (creating a lithophane or creating pockets and/or cutouts like a sign). It will be very helpful to all of us if you will please upload (attach) your photo you are working with. Some of the videos will show how to do this and more. You can drag, delete, smooth and edit the nodes as required or desired. If you are importing a photo and then using the Bitmap Trace feature, you will see loads and loads of nodes (points) that are present on your vectors (lines). These are called “nodes” and are the points I think you are referring to. If you then go into the Node edit mode, you will see four little solid-black squares. If you draw a circle, we might refer to the line as a “circle vector” (the line that forms the circle).
You can think of vectors as just lines on your workspace. The more tutorials you watch, the more understanding will come. Thanks for your persistence and effort you are putting in.
